Trips in 2011 - A Motard at the Chapada das Mesas - MA

In my view a very good way to commemorate special dates related to motorcycling is to make a motorcycle trip. I use to do exactly that!

For instance, along this year of 2011 in addition to complete 41 Years of Motorcycling I am achieving my personal big 60, yes I am turning 60 years old.  For sure this mark deserves to be highlighted and praised.  I already did two wonderful motorcycle trips this year: the first one - A quick ride through the Mid-West region of Brazil was done at the end of May and beginning June, 2011; the second, a trip to Foz do Iguaçu - PR with friends was done during July, 2011.

This third trip I did was intentionally targeted towards two aims: to get to know another region in Brazil - Chapada das Mesas - MA - adding that to the other two Chapadas I already had been in with my motorcycle (Chapada dos Veadeiros - GO in 2009 and 2010  and Chapada dos Guimarães - MT in 2011); and to mark the abovementioned two anniversaries accordingly.

Chapada is a Brazilian word that means a region of steep cliffs, usually at the edge of a plateau.

In this way I will have another two other Chapadas to visit (Chapada do Araripe, situated at the border of the states of Ceara, Piaui and Pernambuco; and Chapada Diamantina - BA) in order to complete the whole array of Brazilian Chapadas.  And it is important to mention: that mark will be reached using the same 200cc motorcycle - my Sundown STX Motard.

Cruising a long stretch of the Belem - Brasilia road (BR-153) again brings me fond memories of the wonderful and memorable trip I did with two friends by the end of 1980, and beginning of 1981.  On that occasion I was riding my Honda CB 400, and we covered 8.400 km in approximately 30 days, covering parts of the Mid-West, Southeast, Northeast and North regions of Brazil.  That trip had an additional purpose: to complete the engine break-in of my Honda CB 400, which I purchased brand new on May, 1980.

Lots of good memories regarding that big trip I did 30 years ago!  I am conscious to the fact that my friends and I belong to that group of motorcyclists that pioneered long distance motorcycle travels in Brazil.

The opportunity of being again on the road, riding my bike in new adventures, getting to know new places, meeting locals, letting my thoughts going free and far.  This is priceless for me, simply that!  And being able to register through photos and publish them with the related facts in my website is always a must.

The opportunity to ride quite a long distance with my motorcycle, the chance to get to know new places and people, to take photos, and to register everything in my memory is a privilege.  And I take all this as such.  To have the chance to publish this in my website definitely is a big bonus.

In this trip to Chapada das Mesas - MA I have ridden 1.287 km from Goiânia - GO to Carolina - MA during two days; I slept over in Aliança do Tocantins - TO, immediately after Gurupi - TO.  I remained two days in Carolina - MA, where I got to know the city and surroundings (Chapada das Mesas - MA).

Then I have ridden back to Goiânia - GO, with a sleep over at Gurupi - TO, I did the return trip riding 1.270 km in two days.  The whole trip totalled 2.557 km and everything went very well, my Sundown STX Motard "behaved" well and I could maintain a regular and steady cruising speed around the 90 - 110 km/h bracket, revving between 6.000 rpm and 7.000 rpm.  It is important to remember that the tacho's red zone begins at 9.000 rpm.

This trip was done within the period from the 8th of October, 2011 to the 13th of October, 2011.  I was very fortunate regarding the weather: despite being the beginning of the rain season in our region I could travel in dry weather, despite very hot temperatures I had to face.
